TinyMe 2008.1 Beta 1

The first beta for TinyMe 2008.1 has been unleashed! While TinyMe 2008.0 was a great release, we're trying to make TinyMe even smaller. Thus, TinyMe 2008.1 is an effort to try to get TinyMe down to a barebones 150MB ISO. What do you get in 150MB? Well, you'll be able to:

  1. Boot up the LiveCD,
  2. log in to a graphical desktop environment,
  3. configure your system with the PCLinuxOS Control Center,
  4. install TinyMe to the hard drive,
  5. and install programs with Synaptic.

From there it's left up to your imagination! Add your own applications and configure as you please! TinyMe can be expanded to become a server, a desktop for very old machines, a base for a gaming machine, or what ever you want.

What's new for this test release?

  • LiveCD size is down to target size
  • Switched from GDM to SLiM
  • Put some of the artwork in place
  • A lot of wireless/networking stuff has been put back in

What still needs to be done?

  • Reinstate TinyCC
  • Get bootsplash artwork in place

Known Issues

The PCLinuxOS repositories are not enabled. Open Synaptic, go to Settings→ Repositories, and check one of the last four repositories.

Download

Download links are on the test download page.

Please note that while you may file bug reports on the TinyMe forums, please do not use installation of TinyMe test releases in a production environment. There is a forum section set up for testing releases; please report any and all issues there. Each time we create a test release, support for the previous test release will be stopped. Once the final release comes out, we will no longer support any of the test releases.
