How fast is the computer you have running TinyMe? - KDulcimer - 12-01-2008 04:28 AM

I thought I'd ask our users this question to get a feel for how fast the average TinyMe system is.

My main system is a dual-core 1.9Ghz AMD. Although, I do have TinyMe on my aunt and uncle's 1.1Ghz Celery, a 600Mhz box at home, and several 266-450MHz boxes sitting around home. (If anybody wants a computer in that speed range, just shoot me a PM. I'll probably let you have it for the shipping.)

My laptop is a intel dual core 2.5 Ghz with 3GB ram but because of the kernel, I run TinyMe only in virtual box where it has 1 GB ram and it runs with the speed of light. Not to mention that the installing takes under 1 minute .

My one and only computer is an old P4 running at 1.7ghz with 512mb of ram. XP installed on one harddrive for my parents/sister and TinyMe on the second for myself.

P3 laptop that when plugged in runs at 900 mhz on battery 700 mhz. 384 MB of memory.

Here is Core2 Duo 2.2Ghz, 2Gigs of RAM, and nVidia 8500 graphics...

I own an outstanding machine (compared to previous posts): Mobile Pentium 2 366 MHz, 256 MB of RAM, 40 GB harddrive space and integrated NeoMagic video and soundcard.

TineMe boots quickly and (mostly) run smoothly. And installation was almost a breeze as the only thing I found lacking is the precise partitioning process.

Although the computer is old (eight years now, c'mon! Big Grin).

Reloading Synaptic repositories takes ages. Fortunately, there is not much to be upgraded so running it once a week is sufficient. (BTW: is TinyMe a rolling release? Can I upgrade 2008.0 to 2008.1 without any doubts?)

Thanks again for this great variant of OS. I guess it takes skill and courage to create such thing in the age of Vista...

TinyMe is a rolling release.

Don't you mean how "slow" is the box you're running?

TinyMe is a rolling release, but don't think of 2008.1 as the successor to 2008.0. 2009.0 will be the successor to 2008.0 and 2009.1 will be the successor to 2008.1.

(Off topic, sorry)

Now, I'm new to the whole rolling release thing. There is nothing to upgrade in synaptic... so, I just sort of leave everything? Did it already upgrade? I don't need to burn a new image, correct?
