Here are my requests:

1. mousepad/trackpad (or whatever pad you want to call it) scrolling.
not having to navigate to the scrollbars in the windows, but just be able to edge scroll or two-finger scroll as with other distros.

2. a more flexible browser than midori (maybe chrome, or chromeplus)

3. double touchpad tap can launch a desktop shortcut

Ok, I have very little knowledge of linux, but I do dabble with live distros and I am learning. Recently I installed tinyme, latest version onto a USB drive. The problem I am running into is that when it looks for the loop image, it says it can not find it an drops me into a limited shell. As i read the output, it appears that it is looking for the loop file system in the cdrom instead of the usb stick/pen drive. This is the output i get:

ERROR: Unable to mount loop filesystem,

Commands were:
losetup /dev/loop0 initrd/cdrom/livecd.sqfs
mount -r -t squashfs /dev/loop0 initrd/loopfs

I am running this on a lenoovo d500 thinkpad with centrino 2 processor.

Any help would be appreciated. I am wondering if i have to edit a command line to make it look in the usb pendrive instead? Forgive me for my newbie question. Thanks!

Hey TinyMe Forum! New member griennehornette here. I have to say tinyme rocks, after trying multiple lightweight distros on an old Dell Latitude (PII with 124RAM!). Several other distros - while all good distros - led me to hours of frustrating attempts to configure my way to a working laptop. All failed.

Or rather, I should say I failed. The distros may have been fine, but required a significantly more advanced user to handle the challenge. I'm quite happy to dive-in to attempting advanced stuff; but usually end-up botching it.

Enter tinyme. I actually downloaded and burned the 2008 iso a couple of years ago, and found the CD during a moment of frustration and despair with the latest failure this weekend. I still ended up having to do some command-line stuff (like reformating the hd with cfdisk) as the hd was borked by all my hacking, and tinyme at first couldn't recognize it.

After that, tinyme installed cheerfully, and had only minor issues to correctify.

Therefore, I proclaim it top of the lightweight division! For what it's worth ;-)

One problem I have not yet discovered the fix for - if anyone reads this and can comment - is the outdated repos. The CD was old, and Synaptic loads 2007 era repos. I get tons of errors when I try to reload, and no new packages are listed. I assume there is a way to add newer repos, I just haven't found it yet.

And I am a bit worried about messing up my now-working laptop! If I update the repos, I may manage to mess-up what is working. Hard to restrain myself though!

Anyway, that's my greeting message. Glad to be aboard.

Ok
Story goes as this:
I must say I'm not an expert !
I got a very old pc (actually I assembled it) 800MHz -256 MB (100) with dvd/cd
I'dlike to use that pc as a game machine for my kids
I am a big fun of 2008 version - so I installed it in minutes!..and ....it flew!
Since I d'like to download some things from repository , I decided to "move" to 2010version...
AND it was then that I realised that 2010 cd DOES NOT run no matter which dvd/cdplayer (I tested with several) is used:as the cd tries to boot a little table appears on screen (probably coming from some bios)and everything stops!

The same problem goes with pclinux2009.4-lxde vs 2009.2KDE(which works!..and ,since I n e e d e d some updates , was what I finally installed!)
My question is
Is there a "new" method of creating the cd iso's adopted, that is not compatible with older bios'es??
If so, it is a pitty , especially for tinyme since itis supposed to be for us, the older ones
can I overcome the problem?
and , if not ,are there any 2008 repos from which one can download ?(eg locales games etc)??

Hello all. I'm currently finishing my studies in Aeronautical Engineering, and since a good time I've been using with joy CAELinux 2008, which is a remaster of PCLOS 2007. Thedistro is very nice, the apps are very well seleted and I certainly reccomend it for any mechanical engineering student (and alikes), as it provides equivalents to very expensive commercial softwares already installed and configured (most of them are not in the repos of any distro, so you may need to compile).
Well, the thing is that the nwer CAELinux versions are based on Ubuntu and only for 64bit systems. Ubuntu is not bad, but it's not what you would call a feather-weight, specially when you need to have a lot of apps opened at the same time and many of them using RAM and CPU with hunger. Also, 64bit software forces to have a more expensive hardware (where I live it's not the most desirable, specially if you're a student). So my idea is to (in a future) restart making a 32bit engineering oriented distro, basically an updated clon of CAELinux 2008, but with a lightweight system as a base. TinyMe already provides common everyday apps, is small, thus allowing to include more apps in a single DVD, and easy to port from Windows. My idea then would be to propose it's use in my uni and distribute it for free among the students.
Now that I've made that introduction, I would like to know in which state is the TinyMe repository compared to PCLOS, specially regarding science-related software and libraries. For example, many OSS can be found as fortran files, and sometimes GCC fails to compile them, but gfortran or g77 does it very well. Then other apps like LabPlot and RKWard are very nice to have. I want to know this so to know if I can be able to start the project or I should wait until the repos are more complete, or in any case if I can use PCLOS/Mandriva rpms in case the corresponding ones are not available in TinyMe/Unity list. Oh, I almost forgot, is it posible also to use Synaptic instead of Smart? I was going to do everything with TinyMe 2008, but I didn't because I understand updating it will bork the system...
Thank you,

Droplet is one of two distros that work with my Broadcom 4306 wifi card. I like it better than the other (Vector). Nice work, developers!

However, I do not seem to have any browser with Droplet, and many basic packages are not being loaded (possibly because there's no browser). So I can't simply download a browser (from another computer) and install it offline.

And all the portable browsers I've seen have some dependencies that are not met with my current setup. Even hv3-something, which claims to have "no dependencies," requires sharing a library that doesn't exist.

Can anyone suggest a solution for me? I can't get my wifi working with Acorn, so that's not an option.

Thanks!

I installed TinyMe-2010-Acorn-RC1b in a Dell 4100 with 997MHz PIII, 512MB RAM and a WD 20GB HD. I have a Generic US 104-key keyboard that, once configured from the CP, functions okay in the GUI, except that double-quotes place two dots above the next letter entered unles I hit it twice and sigle-stick places a backwards accent on the next unless i do likewise!

When I shell out nothing is right in the CLI. for example: q=´, w=, & e=. (continuing), r=p, t=y, y=f. u=g, i=c, o=r, p=l, g=i, z=; , x=q, m=m, ,=w. .=v.

Also, I received an error window stating : ¨Unable to establish connection with FAM. Do you have ´FAM¨ or ´Gamin´ installed and running?¨ on one recent boot-up.

Any ideas what´s going on with the keyboard input and/or what FAM is? I hav not had any problems with keyboard recognition until installing TinyMe.

Hello:
I would like to say thanks for TinyMe. I installed it and got it working with a minimum of effort. It does bring old equipment "back to life."
Anyway, I don't know if this is a "bug," but after installing the 2010-Acorn-RC-1b.i586 image and creating a few user accounts, I cannot get it to use the "autologin" option.
When I goto the Unity control options -> boot -> autologin, and then select "yes" for autologin, and choose a user and desktop, it appears to be fine. But, after I hit "ok" and then re-open the autologin config screen, the changes that were just made are gone, and the autologin option is again set to "no."
So, is this a "bug," or am i doing something wrong.
I have spent some time trying to find which files these config changes are stored in, but have been unsuccessful.
Any help would be great.
thanks

Yes, as uncommon as this may be, I have a very good application for this.

Is there any way to enlarge the cursor and reduce screen resolution? I can't find it just fiddling with the screens. Not that I've quite put in on the HD yet...

I am hooking up and old machine (64 megs RAM) to our living room tv so that, hopefully, my little brother can use his pandora radio (and what have you) on his own, and Tinyme seems like the lead for best choice.

However, He has to be a within a few feet to spot the cursor with complete reliability, so it'd be nice if I could pull it all off... thanks!
