Unable to boot 2008.0 on a decent computer
Hi all,
I'm looking to get helped with my problem. I'm unable to boot a livecd of 2008.0. I want to run it on a decent Celeron 900MHZ with 512 MHZ RAM memory. The CD I'm using boots up and runs on other (friend's) computer. After booting I get Quote:Unable to mount the livecd -- dropping to a limited shell. Then the shell responds: Quote:can't access tty: job control turned off I have tried advice from other posts and typed: "darklive-install", also "/usr/sbin/draklive-install" and finally "startx". None wold work. Can anyone suggest a solution? Thank you! |

Re: Unable to boot 2008.0 on a decent computer
You probably have drive/media incompatiblity. I used to work in a computer lab with about 80 computers and all the time I would have an issue where a burnt disk would work in one machine but not another. I recommend using DVD+/-RW media, or if you can't do that, a CD-RW.
Or you could order a disk from on-disk: http://tinymelinux.com/doku.php/download Please check the Release Announcement before reporting any issues! Please read the Usage Rules before posting! Check out the FAQ!

Re: Unable to boot 2008.0 on a decent computer
Thank you for such a quick reply. I've tried burning TinyMe on a CD RW and got the same error messages as above. I can't use a DVD RW Rom as I don't have a DVD drive.
I noticed one more thing I forgot to say in the previous post. When booting the CD I see the poroces list like: "Loading loop module - LOADED - OK" "Probing USB devices - LOADED - OK" and so on and so forth, all commands in green. But then and the end it says: "Searching for the loop image - /dev/hda1, hda2, ... (all my discs) - DONE" - and it prints "DONE" in red, just like the error message. Do you think it could be a clue to what's wrong? Thanks. |

Try switching out a different optical drive.

Re: Unable to boot 2008.0 on a decent computer
I am experiencing the same problem. I am trying to install TinyMe over Ubuntu on my laptop. I am getting the same exact error as this guy. what's the result when you changed to another optical drive? Is it because TinyMe can't recognize other Linux installations and only recognizes windows XP?

I haven't had a chance to borrow a drive, so I don't have an answer yet.

Re: Unable to boot 2008.0 on a decent computer
Pls see if the problem is similar to Mandriva:
Bug 43975 ldetect-lst, Marvell 88SE61 series drive controllers do not work with 2009 I also have seen a very similar trouble at some Ubuntu list. With Mandriva the installer propose a manual search for a suitable module. After selecting pata_marvell among all modules included by Mandriva the installation is resumed. It therafter boot normally. Earlier test releases did require the command "modprobe pata_marvell" at every boot to enable any of my PATA units. So it seems to be an issue with the paralell bus controller and not with the drive itself. If you haven't got a marvell controller and a PATA drive, just disregard this. Good luck Stig (and yes, I drive a Saab) |
