System freeze when setting-up wifi [solved]
I installed Tinyme on my old PII 350 the other day. Love the speed and feel of the system, however I hit a snag with the wireless (as some others do apparently . I use a Speedtouch 121G usb dongle which I installed using ndiswrapper and a terminal using the instructions provided here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=245651. When I start the netapplet I see a nice list of networks (which I take to mean that the thing works). But, when I try to configure the network using the controlcenter the computer freezes when I choose to use the windows driver that controlcenter shows. It says "Unnamed Window" "Looking for software and drivers" and quits on me.

What am I doing wrong? I am a newby but am not afraid to experiment...

Have you tried going to http://pclinuxos.com/forum (please don't post there; that forum is for support of PCLinuxOS only) and searching there for your card?

Please check the Release Announcement before reporting any issues!
Please read the Usage Rules before posting!
Check out the FAQ!

Re: System freeze when setting-up wifi
Yes, I did and also checked several other fora. Turns out that I'll need to have a lot of luck and perseverance getting it to work. Problem is that my computer gets very nervy about installing new hardware (tried a netgear pci wifi-card and couldn't even get it to boot anymore). Might just see if there is another usb-adapter that works for TinyMe.

Re: System freeze when setting-up wifi
Belkin USB works here ! In PCC>wireless , just had to point ndiswrapper to the .inf XP-file on the MS-install-CD

Re: System freeze when setting-up wifi
Sounds interesting Oliver, could you be a bit more specific regarding type? I live in the Netherlands and we often have different chipsets etc. than other parts of the world...

Re: System freeze when setting-up wifi
No particular model, Just: Belkin N Wireless USB adapter

Am in the Netherlands as well, bought it at BCC in Breda, comes with Windoze Install CD,
(Belkin F5D8053)
When configuring wireless in PCC, have the CD mounted, use ndiswrapper and when asked point to:
/media/Belkin F5D8053/InstallationFiles/XP2K/rt2870.inf
Worked right away (pick a wireless network in next step), and has been working fine for quite some time !

Re: System freeze when setting-up wifi
Thanks! I think I know the one you mean. Also been looking at the Asus N11 which comes with Linux drivers. The pc I use it on is more hobby than anything else,so it isn't that critical. Anyway I'll see if one of the shops here turn up the Asus or Belkin.

Re: System freeze when setting-up wifi
I got a belkin usb adapter F5D7050DF v5 from a friend who had no use for it (she's smart and uses cables). Worked perfect with ndiswrapper... Have it in use now for less than 10 minutes .
